Today, At The Green House. . .

Shades of green and gray. . . I chose to color today’s comic with as many variations of green & gray as possible. . . the new is lush and green and always calling out “come play in me” and the old is shaded with grays as a reminder of all the playing we did. . . I chose this quote today for many reasons but mostly because I love the lyrics from this song by JJ Heller. It’s a lovely song about the beauty of aging and it’s a lesson for me in embracing the old and the new.

I have given a lot of thought lately to AI, Social Media, screen time and all the “new stuff” us vintage humans are trying to figure out . . . the good, bad or whatever. . . and then I ask “Google” to help me find a song (lyrics) about Growing Older and it shows me some great songs. . . the first few that I already know, and then, about 4 suggestions in, this song from someone named JJ Heller. . .

I google further and find some really beautiful lyrics, a recording and video and lots of amazing music from Jennifer Judy Heller. . . and then I realized I’d found the kind of person that I’d love to have as a neighbor.

So. . . I have much more to say about neighbors and greens and grays. . . fresh seedlings and compost. . . which I’ll save for our next post when we meet a few of the critters At The Green House. And I’ll have A LOT more to say about JJ Heller. Until then. . .

Growing Older

Song by JJ Heller ‧ 2025

There’s a certain kind of beauty
That can’t be found among the young
Where you’re settled and your safe in your own skin
You might not see it in the movies
But you know it’s real because
Every wrinkle tells the story of the places you have been

Countless ocean hours
Forming freckles on your face
Wildflowers that will only bloom with age
Learning how to love who you are along the way
You’re growing older and more beautiful each day

If you feel a little tired
It’s because you’ve come so far
And your eyes reflect the grace you have received
Oh, you made it through the fire
It’s what made you who you are
Now it shines like strands of silver
And it feels like being free

Countless ocean hours
Forming freckles on your face
Wildflowers that will only bloom with age
Learning how to love who you are along the way
You’re growing older and more beautiful each day

Every woman has a history like a priceless work of art
A patina that will never fade away
You are made of love and memories
Softer bodie, stronger heart
All the moments you’ve collected
Are what brought you here today
And you would never, ever trade

Those ocean hours
Forming freckles on your face
Wildflowers that will only bloom with age
Learning how to love who you are along the way
You’re growing older and more beautiful each day
You’re growing older and more beautiful each day
And more beautiful
You’re growing older
And more beautiful
You’re growing older
And more beautiful
You’re growing older
And more beautiful
